Nissan Ariya EV makes public debut at Monaco F1 circuit

Race fans at Monaco this year were given a surprise reveal when Nissan drove its upcoming Ariya SUV around the world-famous street circuit

Nissan has given the Ariya EV SUV its public debut in style – by demonstrating it around the iconic Monaco Grand Prix circuit.

The pure EV drive around the historic track was fitting, as it had recently hosted races for Formula E, as well as last weekend’s Monaco F1 race.

“Ariya is the epitome of Nissan’s innovation in electric mobility and this event marks a defining moment in the next chapter of Nissan’s EV journey,” said Nissan regional vice president Arnaud Charpentier.

“Ariya’s public driving in the streets of Monaco is a great way to witness the capabilities of our e-4ORCE technology.”

Nissan reckons the public demonstration “demonstrates to a global audience the excitement of zero-emissions electric vehicles”.

To underline the crossover between road and track, the firm has actually renamed its Formula E racing cars in line with its road-going EVs: the No. 22 cars is called Leaf, and the No. 23 racer is called Ariya.

More than 34,000 people have already registered their interest in the new Ariya EV, adds Nissan.
