Electric Kia EV6 wins another major award

Along with a recent Good Design Award, the Kia EV6 has claimed the What Car? Car of the Year title.

Kia is going to need a larger trophy cabinet after the EV6 electric SUV claimed another important win.

The 2022 What Car? Awards saw the EV6 named as Car of the Year, alongside a win in the Electric SUV category.

Kia’s success with the EV6 marks the brand’s second overall win at the What Car? Awards in the past four years.

In 2019, the Kia e-Niro collected the top prize, becoming the first electric car to do so.

The What Car judges praised the EV6 for how quickly it has moved the electric car game on.

A range of up to 328 miles was one of the main factors in the EV6’s favour. Being able to use super-fast, 800-volt charging technology was also identified as a major advantage. This allows the EV6 to be recharged from 10 to 80 percent capacity in just 18 minutes.

Being a purpose-built electric car brings rewards in terms of interior space, while Kia’s seven-year warranty continues to impress.

Kia UK president and CEO Paul Philpott said: “It’s a great honour for Kia to win Car of the Year at this year’s What Car? Awards, particularly given the high regard with which they are held by customers across the UK.

“The EV6 is a truly exceptional car and it’s just the beginning of things to come from Kia on our rapid journey to electrification. This is tangible recognition that Kia is fast becoming a true leader in electric vehicles, having also won this award with e-Niro in 2019.”

The What Car? Award is the latest trophy won by the EV6. As part of the annual Good Design Awards, the car was also recognised for Kia’s commitment to ‘superior design, innovation and unparalleled function’.

The EV6 became the Korean car to achieve product carbon footprint certification from the Carbon Trust, too.
