MG ZS EV gets a new look and extra range for 2022

With a new 72kWh battery pack, the 2022 MG ZS EV can drive up to 273 miles on a full charge.

Reworked styling and increased battery range are the headline changes for the updated MG ZS EV.

As one of the UK’s top-selling electric vehicles, MG is keen to keep its family SUV competitive.

Designed to draw in customers is the new electric-only front end, with a stamped-effect grille for improved aerodynamics.

LED headlights and a new side-opening charging port are also part of the makeover. MG fans may also spot the redesigned rear bumper and new alloy wheels.

Underneath the refreshed body is a choice of two battery packs. A brand new 72kWh ‘Long Range’ battery offers an official WLTP range of 273 miles.

Next year will see a smaller 51kWh battery option added. With a 198-mile range, even this version will outperform the 163 miles offered by the current ZS EV.

The ZS EV is compatible with Type 2 and CCS charging connections. This allows for the use of AC fast charging and DC rapid charging.

Connecting to a 100kW rapid charger will see the 72kWh battery charged to 100 percent in just 42 minutes.

Inside, MG will install its iSmart connectivity system in all new ZS EV models. This works with a dedicated smartphone app, allowing drivers to adjust the climate control and car security settings remotely.

The iSmart system makes use of a 10.1-inch multimedia touchscreen, which is said to offer improved graphics and functionality.

Range-topping Trophy models get wireless smartphone charging as standard, while all ZS EVs have a new instrument panel.

The revised ZS EV is the third electrified model in MG’s range, along with the MG5 EV and HS plug-in hybrid.

All UK MG cars and SUVs come with a seven-year manufacturer warranty.

Prices for the updated 2022 MG ZS EV will be announced in November, with cars expected in showrooms around the same time.
