Prices confirmed for Mercedes-Benz S 580 e L PHEV

UK pricing for the plug-in hybrid version of the luxurious S-Class saloon will start at £104,490

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed UK pricing for a new plug-in hybrid version of the decadent S-Class saloon.

It joins the existing range of petrol and diesel engine options for the S-Class, bringing with it an extra degree of efficiency.

The S 580 e will only be sold in long-wheelbase ‘L’ form, meaning generous levels of rear legroom as standard.

Powering the S 580 e L is a 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, producing 367 hp. This is combined with a 150 hp electric motor, allowing the S-Class to accelerate from 0-62mph in 5.2 seconds.

Although many other S-Class models use 4Matic all-wheel drive, the S 580 e L is rear-wheel drive only. A nine-speed automatic gearbox is the transmission of choice.

A 28.6 kWh lithium-ion battery allows the S 580 e L to cover up to a staggering 63 miles when fully charged.

Rapid charging can replenish this to 80 percent in 20 minutes, with a 7.4 kW home wallbox taking around four hours.

On official fuel consumption testing, the money-saving S 580 e L can achieve up to 353.1 mpg, with CO2 emissions of 18g/km.

Having only been launched in September 2020, the latest S-Class is packed with new technology. This includes a 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen display, and 3D facial recognition to detect driver drowsiness.

Pricing begins at £104,490 for the AMG Line Premium model, featuring 20-inch wheels, a Burmester sound system, and electrically adjustable rear seats.

Moving up to AMG Line Premium Plus costs £109,385, bringing an augmented reality head-up display and 21-inch alloy wheels. An optional £3,795 Executive Line package tailors the S-Class for chauffeur duties.

UK customers can expect to take delivery of the S 580 e L by the end of 2021.
