Kia continues to lead the way in 2021’s pure EV sales with the e-Niro dominating the charts
The Kia e-Niro has held onto its title as best-selling EV in Britain for the second month running – despite ever-growing competition from an increasing array of rivals.
The e-Niro’s strong performance helped Kia account for nearly 1 in 5 EVs sold in the UK during February 2020.
In addition, more than a third of the cars Kia has sold so far in 2021 is electrified.
Impressively, a strong performance by the firm’s UK dealer network to continue trading in a Covid-friendly way during lockdown has seen the firm take an overall 5.6% share of the UK new car market.
The Kia Niro range overall, including the e-Niro and Niro Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid, was the sixth best-selling car in the UK last month, with the e-Niro accounting for the fast majority of sales.
"Our long-term product strategy and focus on electrification means we are able to offer a wide range of vehicles and advanced powertrains in line with the evolving expectations of our customers," said Kia Motors UK president and CEO Paul Philpott.
Kia now plans to launch seven pure EV cars between now and 2027, as part of its ‘Plan S’ business strategy.
The first of these new EVs is coming very soon – by the end of Q1 2021 – and "will play an important role in Kia UK’s future EV line-up".
