487hp Ford Mustang Mach-E GT now on sale

Ford’s fastest-accelerating European five-seater ever, the Mustang Mach-E GT range-topper arrives in the UK later in 2021

British fast Ford fans can now go EV with a high-performance Mustang Mach-E GT edition, and a strictly limited number of first batch models are now open for ordering.

Priced from £67,225, the new GT model boasts seriously potent performance: up to 487hp and a record-breaking 860Nm of torque (15% more than the Ford GT supercar!) guarantee epic acceleration: 0-62mph takes just 3.7 seconds.

Ford says this makes it the fastest five-seat car it has ever sold in Europe.

It shares the regular Mustang Mach-E’s 88kWh extended range battery, for a driving range of 310 miles.

UK deliveries will begin later in 2021.

The mighty Mach-E GT is marked out from lesser models with beefed-up body styling, 20-inch alloys and red brake calipers.

Owners can choose two exclusive colours, Cyber Orange or Grabber Blue. A unique 3D-effect grille in Dark Matter Grey is also unique.

Inside, there are Ford Performance sports seats and a premium B&O sound system.

Ford’s worked with Pirelli to create a bespoke high-performance tyre, and with Brembo to give it the necessary stopping power.

“The specially-developed tyres absolutely claw at the ground,” said Ford engineering manager Rob Iorio.

The car has two AC EV motors, one front and one rear, and the back one is an all-new oil-cooled unit. When owners cycle through the drive models – Whisper, Active and Untamed – the balance of drive progressively shifts to a rearward bias.

Just for Mach-E GT, there’s an additional mode, called Untamed Plus. This sharpens steering and accelerator, stiffens the suspension, simulates downshifts and enhances the augmented interior sound.

Ford even says the traction and stability systems is minimised “to limit intervention for track driving enthusiasts”.

“Mustang Mach-E GT demonstrates the true potential for all-electric powertrains to dial up the fun-to-drive experience,” said Ford of Europe’s Geert van Noyen.

“This is a refined, premium specification five-seater SUV with the acceleration of a supercar and zero tailpipe emissions – a combination that was the stuff of dreams when I started my career as a car engineer 30 years ago.”
