SsangYong is accelerating development of future-proof EVs with the first one, the Korando e-Motion, arriving in Europe this autumn
SsangYong has announced an acceleration in its new car development programme to ensure the firm is future-proofed for the impending global switch to EVs.
The company, which is currently in receivership seeking new owners, says the “robust set of self-help measures” will focus on eco-friendly EVs – with the first pure electric SsangYong arriving in Europe this autumn.
Production of the Korando e-Motion mid-size EV SUV is already underway in Korea: SsangYong promises the spacious interior remains extremely flexible, while aero-tuned body parts help maximise range.
The firm has also teased its next EV, a mid-size SUV currently codenamed J100.
The above teaser images preview the design, which SsangYong describes as a “new, modern, authentic SUV, with styling cues based on SsangYong’s design language to create a strong and safe SUV”.
SsangYong is also planning an EV pick-up.
The firm’s receiver, Yong Won Chung said: "We are establishing a strong foothold for corporate rehabilitation through a successful M&A and putting our very best efforts into new car development by addressing the rapidly changing automotive trends.
“In addition, we are expanding the line-up of eco-cars, discovering future growth opportunities such as new business models, and preparing for renewed competitiveness."
