British Gas is going electric with biggest-ever EV van order

Vauxhall is supplying 2,000 pure electric Vivaro-e vans in a landmark new order

British Gas has placed an order with Vauxhall for 2,000 all-electric Vivaro-e vans – the country’s largest ever order for EV vans to date.

It’s part of British Gas’ commitment to electrify its entire fleet of vans by 2025.

British Gas runs the third-largest fleet of vans in the country.

The company has committed never to purchase another combustion engine vehicle ever again – and has actually bought forward its electrification commitment by five years.

As well as electrifying 12,000 vans, British Gas is also going to make its 1,500 company car fleet fully-EV by 2025.

“Everyone needs to act now to lower carbon emissions and help the UK reach net zero,” said Centrica chief executive Chris O’Shea.

“Fully electrifying our fleet will make a big difference.

“At the same time, we are helping our customers make the switch to electric and working with motor manufactures such as Vauxhall on service and solutions for their EV customers such as charge points, infrastructure and innovative EV tariffs, with cheaper charging  at night and free EV miles.

British Gas’ commitment has been welcomed by transport secretary Grant Shapps. “It’s encouraging to see that one of Britain’s best-known brands is leading the way with the largest commercial EV fleet in the UK,” he said.

“This is a huge step as we build back greener, lower our carbon footprint and delivery better air quality up and down the country.

“With more zero-emission models of cars and vans on the market than ever before, there has bever been a better time for drivers and businesses to make the switch.”
