After agreeing a deal with Volkswagen, taxi company Addison Lee has become the largest fleet operator of the electric ID.4.
Taxi company Addison Lee has signed a deal to take on 450 examples of the Volkswagen ID.4.
It becomes the biggest fleet deal to-date for the electric SUV, and will see the ID.4 in use across London.
Volkswagen views the agreement as a major vote of confidence in its first purpose-built electric SUV.
The deal for the 450 ID.4 models is only the beginning of Addison Lee’s plans for electrification. At present, it makes use of traditional MPVs, including the Volkswagen Sharan.
Over the next two years, the private hire company aims to add 200 electric vehicles to its fleet each month.
With an operation that currently includes a total of 4,000 vehicles, the switchover will make Addison Lee London’s largest full-electric fleet operator when completed.
Volkswagen UK head of fleet, Nick O’Neill, commented: “That Addison Lee has chosen the ID.4 as its initial route to large scale electrification is a huge vote of confidence in this exceptional new car, the support available via Volkswagen UK, and the quality of our brand.”
Liam Griffin, CEO of Addison Lee, added: “We are pleased and excited to build on our existing partnership with Volkswagen by adding the ID.4 to our fleet. This will be the first fully electric vehicle offered by Addison Lee and reflects our premium position in the private hire market.”
The ID.4 won the coveted title of the 2021 World Car of the Year award, and can cover an official range of up to 322 miles.
